Why does this exist?

Talesmith exists as a counter-weight to the centralised social media doom scrolling and controlling algorithms that decide what you see.
It exists because modern social media is built around 'you as a product'. Your data is used to find out more and more about you and your friends, what you like and even in some cases why you like it. They do this not only to earn advertising revenue from your data but also the selling of your personal data to data brokers.
Talesmith exists because we don't need an algorithm recommending what it wants us to see, and obfuscate who we really want to see.
Talesmith exists because privacy matters.
Talesmith exists as a reversal of the bad elements of centralised controlled social media.
What is Talesmith?
Talesmith is distributed, decentralised software you run on your hosting.

Talesmith is software you install on your own domain. You control your content, your connections, and your visibility—from a login-only site to showing your posts on your public URL. Your connections are never shared on your node’s public site; the mixed home wall with connection posts is only when you are signed in.
