Hub installation

Coming soon

Hub install packages are not available to download yet. Talesmith is not offering self-hosted hub software on the public site at this time. This page describes what installation will involve when releases are published—use it for planning only.

The node is available now: Getting Started.

When hub downloads are available

You will install a hub the same way as a node: upload official files from https://www.talesmith.studio only, open hub.php in a browser, and complete first-time setup.

Expected release contents (subject to change before launch):

  • hub.php
  • hub.js
  • hub.css
  • talesmith.js
  • talesmith.css

Updates will use the /updates/hub/ channel (see Versions for the node pattern).

Server requirements

A hub needs stricter hosting than a node alone:

  • PDO SQLite is required (data/hub.sqlite).
  • Other PHP extensions, limits, and permissions match the Host requirements table (recommended and minimum install columns).
  • Hub plugin pretty URLs may need Apache mod_rewrite, nginx rewrites, or IIS URL Rewrite; query-style plugin URLs will work without them.

When hub software ships, use Check host on hub setup (same idea as the node setup screen) against that list.

What gets created on disk

Beside hub.php, a data/ folder will hold the SQLite database, plugin trees, avatars, broadcasts, and hub settings—similar in spirit to a node’s data/, but with a database for the node directory. Details will mirror Data for nodes, with hub-specific paths documented at launch.

Relationship to nodes

Operators run a hub; users still run nodes. Nodes register with a hub URL from Connections → Hub; they do not upload their posts to the hub. Plugin zips are installed on the hub; nodes pull manifests and enable plugins locally.

For how node owners use a hub, see Using a hub under Hubs in the docs.
